I.4.01.1.04. Visit Tintagel Castle

Date Accomplished: 11 July, 2000

Tintagel Castle Ruins

We continued on from Glastonbury for a long drive into Cornwall to visit the ruins of the castle of Tintagel.  Like I said in my previous post, I was very interested in the Arthur legend at the time, and Tintagel was the supposed place of Arthur’s birth.  The castle which stood there was originally from the thirteenth century, so could not have been the castle was born in (it was likely built because of the Arthur legend, because it is not an easy spot to build a castle).  It is, however, a beautiful spot.  It was a bit windy that day, but otherwise gorgeous weather.  The castle ruins are placed on a cliff face overlooking the Irish sea, which was just one of the most beautiful and clear colors of blue that I have ever seen.

I wish there was more I could say about this place, because it is beautiful and deserves more attention, but sadly we were pressed for time.  We spent what time we could around the ruins, but had to soon leave for the long drive back to Avebury where we would spend the night again.  The next day we would make the drive back to London, to spend one last day wandering around, before catching our flight back to America the following day.
